SFINCS: Meet Team JamReads
2 Sept 2023SFINCS (Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championship) is about to start, and I have the pleasure of being leading one of the judging teams; it's time to know the members of it! But firstly, let's talk about SFINCS.
The Speculative Fiction Indie Novella Championship (SFINCS, pronounced “sphinx”) is a yearly competition to recognize, honor, and celebrate the talent and creativity present in the indie community. We are a sister competition to both SPFBO and SPSFC, and we highlight greatness in the novella format in all areas of speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, horror, etc.).
Time for some introductions!
C. J. Daley
C.J was an avid player of Who Wants to be a Millionaire Lord of the Rings Edition. When the millions turned out to be fake, and answering that “Athelas” was another name for “Kingsfoil” grew tiresome, he retired. Now, an avid reader instead, he reads an array of genres from fantasy, scifi, thriller, horror and mystery. Since 2021 he has focused on indie and self pub authors primarily.
Krina
Krina is an avid reader and a teacher. But there are a million things she engages in; be it branding management or ghostwriting, be it product photography or editing. She loves to binge be it book series to read or TV series to watch. Words took over her life and all she does is either read or write. Reading any and all sub-genres of Fantasy but never trying to read horror, her TBR is never ending. She is slowly starting her library helping people get access to books which are not easily available in India.
And yes, try writing her a letter. It takes her ages to reply on social media.

Nils Odlund
Nils Ödlund is originally Swedish, but spent well over a decade in Cork, Ireland, before moving to Haarlem, Netherlands, where he currently lives. He’s an avid reader, gamer, and fan of geek-culture.
Ödlund picked up writing as a hobby, almost by accident, back in 2010, and it quickly grew into something of an obsession. In 2017 he decided to get serious about it, and in early 2018, he published his debut novella Emma’s Story. Since then he’s written the Lost Dogs series consisting of ten novellas, and he's currently working on a series called Gone Home, taking place in parallel with Lost Dogs.
When not writing, Ödlund enjoys hiking through the countryside, reading, or playing games. He also tries to make time to review the books he reads, and reviews can be found at https://indieaccords.com/.
Unlike every other author in the history of all authors ever (citation needed), Ödlund does not have a cat.

Rowena Andrews
Hi, I’m Rowena and I’ve been blogging about books at Beneath A Thousand Skies since the end of 2019 and my TBR has only got bigger in that time. I’ve been involved with SPSFC, BBNYA and the British Fantasy Awards as a judge. Outside of blogging, I run a Books & Music shop and I’m also a fantasy writer (yes books rule my life at this point), and chase after an elderly cat and two mischevious dachshunds.
Trudie Skies
Trudie Skies has been living inside fantasy worlds ever since they discovered books, and they refuse to return to reality. Within Trudie’s daydreams you’ll find SPFBO and BBNYA finalist The Thirteenth Hour, a gaslamp fantasy described as obnoxiously British and best read with a cup of tea.
When not conjuring new worlds, Trudie spends their free time exploring the realms of indie books and video games, staring at clouds, and chasing after their fluffy companions.

Jamedi
Bornt in Spain, Jamedi has spent most of his life devouring books, but wasn't until recently he decided to start reviewing them; and as anything he does in his life, he gives his 120% each time.
A lifelong traveller and cyclist, he can be found cooking, playing piano, or having some beers when not reading.
