The Amber Dame is a prequel novella to the Realm Reachers series, the epic/dark fantasy series written by Brendan Noble; set two years before The Crimson Court, in this piece we will get to know how Kasia wins the Amber Dame title, in her attempts to restore the wealth and prestige of the Niezik house. While it is a prequel, I kinda recommend reading it after The Crimson Court; but it works great as an introduction to Kasia and the world.

In this story, we get to follow Kasia in her path to be the woman we get to know in the main novel, how she takes a house fallen in disgrace and manages to restore it; and the key behind it is rare amber. A valuable resource that will require her to fight with the house Uziokaki, showing us how she's decided to get it, even if that means putting her life at risk.

Noble takes the opportunity to give us a better insight into how she gained the Amber Dame title, portraying a brave and even reckless Kasia; an inventive woman with an enormous responsibility for her house that she needs to solve before she can continue the investigation of her father's death. 

A novella that is greatly paced, explaining the necessary to understand the world and reaching, but without entering in too much detail; as said, it can be completely understood as a first contact with the series, as Noble has put much care on it. You can feel the stakes at play, especially when the climax is reached.
